Customer Value
- ALDI sells more than 1,400 of the most frequently purchased grocery and household items in manageable, non-bulk packaging. Customers find 90 percent of their average weekly shopping list at ALDI.
- Through a select assortment and convenient grocery shopping approach, ALDI passes on savings to consumers with prices up to 50 percent below traditional supermarkets. (ALDI does not pass on hidden costs such as in-store banking, pharmacies, bagging clerks, check cashing, photo processing or other non-essential grocery store services.)
- Almost 95 percent of ALDI's premium products are sold under its exclusive, select brands to further keep costs down and are manufactured by many of the nation's leading food producers. In its test kitchen, ALDI ensures its products meet or exceed the quality and taste of the national name brands.
- ALDI takes a cost-effective and environmentally conscious approach to one of the greatest grocery polluters – bags. Customers can bring their own or opt to purchase a reusable, long-lasting ALDI bag, saving money and precious resources.
- As an added convenience for customers, ALDI's everyday low prices are available to all shoppers. There's no need for membership cards, watching for sales or the hassles of clipping coupons to get low prices on quality products.
Customer-Focused Operations
- ALDI realizes tremendous operating cost savings and efficiencies that are passed on to consumers in the form of lower prices by having stores open during the most popular shopping hours – typically 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. (See store locator for specific store hours.)
- With its consistent store layout and manageable 10,000 square feet of retail space, spacious checkout, open carton displays and most commonly purchased product sizes, the ALDI store model appeals to the efficient shopper.
- Overhead costs are reduced and savings passed on to customers with other aspects of the ALDI business model such as the shopping cart deposit system where customers use a quarter to retrieve a cart and get a quarter refunded when they return the cart to the corral at the end of their shopping trip.
- ALDI divisions include about 55 stores and a dedicated warehouse, ensuring local, timely and fresh distribution.
Retail Leadership
- ALDI began in the U.S. in 1976 in Iowa and is headquartered in Batavia, Ill.
- Today ALDI has approximately 1,000 stores in 29 states serving more than 18 million customers each month. Rhode Island and Florida were new markets in 2008 and Texas stores will be coming in 2010.
- Rising demand for ALDI is fueling significant expansion. ALDI has been opening about 50 stores per year with 100 new U.S. stores that opened in 2008 and approximately 75 new stores scheduled to open in 2009.
- Ranked 25th among U.S. grocery chains in gross sales (Supermarket News 2008), ALDI’s significant growth during the past 30 years has been achieved with no mergers or acquisitions.
- ALDI employees receive generous wages and benefits that are significantly higher than the national average. Employees averaging more than 20 hours a week receive full health insurance benefits.
- It is common for ALDI employees to celebrate 15, 20 and 25 years of service.
